How to design a whole home in seven steps
Step 1. Establish the shell. Draw the exterior walls with the wall tool. Use grid snapping (metres or feet). Close the polygon for each level.
Step 2. Add interior walls and partition rooms. Each room is its own closed wall loop, with editable thickness and height.
Step 3. Place doors and windows. Drag from the catalogue, drop onto walls, edit swing direction, sill height, and reveal depth per opening.
Step 4. Add multiple floors. Use the floor switcher to stack stories with consistent footprints.
Step 5. Furnish. Drop in beds, sofas, tables, kitchen counters, bathroom fixtures, wardrobes, desks. Resize per piece if your real item differs from the catalogue average.
Step 6. Materials. Apply textures from the built-in library (wood, tile, paint, fabric) per surface, or upload your own.
Step 7. Switch to 3D. Walk through, verify sightlines and proportions, iterate, and snapshot any view to a photo render (PNG).
Multi-floor home design
Home 3D Plan handles unlimited floors per project. Each floor has its own elevation, height, and room layout, and the 3D view stacks them correctly with stairs visualised between levels.
For two- or three-storey homes, plan each floor as a separate top-down layout, then switch to 3D to verify the overall massing. Does the second-floor footprint line up with the load-bearing walls below? Does the roof shape work over the floorplan you've drawn?
Materials, finishes, and the lived-in look
The materials library covers the typical residential set: wood floors, tile, stone, plaster / paint, fabric, leather, glass, metal. Each material is editable per surface, tile a bathroom in one pattern, the kitchen backsplash in another, and the entry hall in a third.
You can also upload your own textures, photos of an actual paint colour, a tile sample, a wood grain, and apply them just like the built-in materials. They're organised into folders in your account and follow you across every project.
Exports: photo render + share link
The photo render snapshots the lit 3D scene to an image (PNG) in one click, instant, unlimited, with no watermark and no render credits.
The share link is a live URL anyone can open in a browser, no account required, read-only or editable. Useful for showing a contractor, family member, or client without needing a screenshot.
For a to-scale technical drawing (PDF, DXF, or SVG), the platform includes DraftCAD, a separate 2D CAD tool.
Why Home 3D Plan vs. paid home design software
No paid plan. Most home-design tools are subscription-based (SketchUp Pro, Chief Architect, Live Home 3D, Roomle Pro), with the most useful features paywalled. Home 3D Plan is free, and every feature is available to every user.
No download or Windows-only restriction. Runs in any modern browser, on any operating system, including iPad and Chromebook.
No sign-up required for basic use. Anonymous projects work just like signed-in ones, with the only difference being cloud sync (which an account adds).

Is this really free?
Yes. Every design feature is free for every user on every device today, with no per-export charge and no watermark.
Will there ever be a paid plan?
It is free today with no paywalled features. Home 3D Plan is community-funded rather than investor-funded, supported by optional partnerships and community contributions. If we ever introduce paid plans, we will show the fees before any charge and will not lock features you already use behind a paywall.
Do I need to create an account?
No. You can open the editor and start designing without signing in. A free account only adds cloud saves across devices, sharing, and a personal texture library; it does not unlock design features.
Can I design a multi-floor house?
Yes. Unlimited floors per project, each with its own elevation and layout, all stacked correctly in 3D.
Is it suitable for new-build planning?
For early concept work, yes: drawing the shell, testing room sizes, and producing presentation-quality 3D views. For permit-stage construction documents you'd still want a CAD/BIM tool, but the early phases work well here.
Can I upload my own materials and furniture?
Yes. Custom textures upload to your account and are usable in every project. Custom furniture (GLB / FBX) is a planned community feature.
Does it work on iPad?
Yes. The web app runs on iPad Safari and installs as a PWA, and it also runs on iPhone and Android browsers.
Is Home 3D Plan free?
Yes. Home 3D Plan runs in your browser at no cost, with no sign-up requirement and no paywalled features. The PWA install is also free.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Home 3D Plan is a Progressive Web App, so you can open it in any modern browser and start designing. You can optionally install it to your home screen for offline access.
