Free Gym Floor Plan Software: Home + Commercial Gym Layouts

Design a home gym, garage gym, or commercial fitness facility to scale. Equipment zones, racks, cardio, free weights, mirrored walls. 2D plan + 3D walk-through. Free, browser-based, no paid tier.

A gym floor plan tool is what separates a workable training space from one where the squat rack ends up wedged against a wall with no room to dump weights. Home 3D Plan lets you draw your space to scale, drop in real-size gym equipment from a catalogue, and verify sightlines, traffic flow, and clearances in 3D before you order a single rack.

Whether you're fitting out a garage gym, planning a home gym in a spare room, designing a commercial fitness studio, or laying out a CrossFit / functional-training box, the workflow is the same: measure, draw the walls, drop in equipment at real dimensions, walk through in 3D. All free, in the browser.

Who plans a gym floor

Home-gym owners fitting out a garage, basement, or spare-bedroom training space, testing whether a full rack + bar + bench actually fit before buying.

Commercial gym operators planning the equipment mix and zoning for a new location, before signing the lease.

Boutique studios (yoga, pilates, functional training) laying out class spaces, equipment storage, and changing rooms.

Personal trainers planning the in-home setup they'll recommend to a client.

How to plan a gym in five steps

Step 1. Measure the space and the ceiling height. Lifting equipment in particular is ceiling-sensitive, a standard Olympic bar overhead-pressed by a tall lifter wants 2.7 m clear, and racks with pull-up bars want 2.4 m minimum.

Step 2. Draw the walls. Use grid snapping in metres or feet. Mark out any structural columns, low-hanging beams, or doors that swing inward and steal floor space.

Step 3. Zone the floor. Group equipment by use: heavy lifting (racks, platform, deadlift area) in one corner, free weights + benches nearby, cardio along a wall with airflow, accessory work in the remaining space.

Step 4. Place equipment from the catalogue at real sizes. Standard sizes covered: power racks, half racks, smith machines, treadmills, ellipticals, bikes, rowers, benches, dumbbell racks. Resize per piece if your actual model differs.

Step 5. Switch to 3D. Walk through the gym, verify lifting paths (you should be able to walk a loaded barbell from rack to platform without manoeuvring), and check sightlines between cardio and the TV (or windows).

Home gym layout: garage or spare room

A single-rack home gym needs ~7 m² as a hard minimum (rack + bench + walking space). A workable garage gym with rack, bench, dumbbells, and a small cardio piece wants 12 to 18 m². Use the planner to verify the rack has the bar-loading clearance it needs on the open side (~1.5 m for an Olympic bar plus plates), and that you can fully extend a bench press without the bar hitting a wall.

For garage gyms specifically, model the garage door position. When it's open, where do the springs and tracks intrude? Don't place your overhead press station under them.

Commercial gym + studio planning

Commercial gyms add three constraints home gyms don't have: legally required ADA-accessible paths (typically 90 cm minimum width), changing rooms / showers / lockers, and the customer flow from entrance → check-in → changing → floor → exit.

Use the 2D plan to lay out zoning (the loud-equipment zone usually wants to be separated from yoga / stretching by a partition or distance), and the 3D view to verify mirror placement. Mirrors should let lifters see their form from the side, not be where they catch direct overhead glare.

Why Home 3D Plan for gym design

Free, with no paywall. Most fitness-facility planning tools are paid subscriptions or vendor-locked to a specific equipment brand. Here everything is free, and the catalogue is brand-agnostic.

Runs in any modern browser with no install. Plan on a laptop in the office, then check it on a phone walking around the actual space.

Saves to your account so the plan survives device switches. Snapshot the lit 3D scene to a photo render (PNG) in one click, unlimited and watermark-free, useful for sharing the layout when quoting installation work.

Frequently asked questions

Is this really free?

Yes. Every design feature is free for every user on every device today, with no per-export charge and no watermark.

Will there ever be a paid plan?

It is free today with no paywalled features. Home 3D Plan is community-funded rather than investor-funded, supported by optional partnerships and community contributions. If we ever introduce paid plans, we will show the fees before any charge and will not lock features you already use behind a paywall.

Do I need to create an account?

No. You can open the editor and start designing without signing in. A free account only adds cloud saves across devices, sharing, and a personal texture library; it does not unlock design features.

Does the catalogue include real gym equipment sizes?

Yes. Standard power racks, half racks, benches, treadmills, ellipticals, rowers, and dumbbell racks are included at typical commercial dimensions. Each piece can be resized to match your exact model.

Can I check ceiling height for overhead movements?

Yes. The planner stores ceiling height per room. The 3D view shows the lifter's vertical reach so you can verify clearance for overhead presses, snatches, and pull-ups before you mount anything.

Is it suitable for commercial gym design?

Yes. Commercial facilities use the same drawing + catalogue workflow as home gyms, just at a larger scale. The 2D plan shows dimensions on screen, and you can snapshot photo renders or share a live link. For a to-scale permit drawing, the platform includes DraftCAD, a separate 2D CAD tool that exports PDF, DXF, and SVG.

Is Home 3D Plan free?

Yes. Home 3D Plan runs in your browser at no cost, with no sign-up requirement and no paywalled features. The PWA install is also free.

Do I need to install anything?

No. Home 3D Plan is a Progressive Web App, so you can open it in any modern browser and start designing. You can optionally install it to your home screen for offline access.

Can I export my plans?

Yes. Snapshot your lit 3D scene to an image (PNG) with one click, unlimited and with no watermark, and share a read-only or editable live link that opens in any browser without an account.
