A bathroom remodel is the most clearance-sensitive room in a house. Get the WC clearance wrong, the door swing wrong, or the shower glass wrong, and you find out only after the tile is down. Critical bathroom clearances to check
Toilet (WC), at least 38 cm of clear space on each side of the bowl centreline, and 53 cm of clear floor in front. Most building codes match these.
Vanity / sink, minimum 53 cm of clear floor in front of the basin; ideal is 76 cm. Double vanities want at least 76 cm between sink centrelines.
Shower, minimum interior dimension 90 × 90 cm for a stand-up; 100 × 100 cm is more comfortable. Door swing-out or curbless entry should not collide with the toilet or vanity.
Bathtub, typical 170 cm × 70 cm, requiring ~76 cm of clear floor on the open side. The planner ships a standard tub at this dimension; replace with a freestanding model and re-check clearances.

How to plan a bathroom in five steps
Step 1. Measure the room. Wall lengths, door position and swing, window position, ceiling height, and any existing plumbing rough-in locations.
Step 2. Draw the walls in 2D. If you're working off an existing room, lay it out exactly; if you're moving walls, draw the proposed layout.
Step 3. Place the toilet first. It's the most clearance-sensitive fixture and constrains everything else. Then add vanity, shower / tub, and any storage.
Step 4. Door swing check. Make sure the bathroom door opens without hitting any fixture, and the shower door (if hinged) doesn't collide with the vanity.
Step 5. Switch to 3D and apply tile. Try two or three tile patterns from the materials library on the walls and floor. The 3D view makes the actual visual impact obvious in seconds, far better than judging from a 5x5 cm tile sample.
Tile + materials
The materials library includes tile patterns (subway, herringbone, mosaic, large-format porcelain), stone (marble, limestone, slate), wood-look planks, and solid colours. Apply different materials to walls, floor, shower surround, and vanity countertop independently. Each surface is editable.
You can also upload your own textures, a photo of a tile sample you're considering, and apply it the same way. Comparing two real tile options side by side in a 3D bathroom is the fastest way to make a decision you won't regret.
Small bathroom and powder room layouts
Sub-3 m² powder rooms are the most rigorous layout puzzle in residential design. Use the planner to confirm the door clears the toilet and vanity; check that a person at the sink doesn't block someone trying to leave; verify that the open door doesn't bang into the toilet bowl.
For tight spaces, consider a pocket door (saves the swing arc) and a wall-mounted toilet (saves ~10 cm of floor depth), both can be modelled and visualised in 3D before any wall is opened.

Will there ever be a paid plan?
It is free today with no paywalled features. Home 3D Plan is community-funded rather than investor-funded, supported by optional partnerships and community contributions. If we ever introduce paid plans, we will show the fees before any charge and will not lock features you already use behind a paywall.
Do I need to create an account?
No. You can open the editor and start designing without signing in. A free account only adds cloud saves across devices, sharing, and a personal texture library; it does not unlock design features.
Does it include real bathroom fixture sizes?
Yes. Toilets, vanities, sinks, tubs, showers, and storage are all in the catalogue at typical residential dimensions. Each piece can be resized if your actual model differs.
Can I try different tile patterns?
Yes. The materials library includes subway, herringbone, mosaic, large-format porcelain, stone, and solid colours. You can also upload your own tile photos and apply them as textures.
Will it warn me about clearance issues?
Not automatically. Clearance checking is a manual review using the 2D plan with dimensions visible. The planner makes it easy to spot, but it doesn't enforce code-required clearances. Reference local building code for legal minimums.
Is Home 3D Plan free?
Yes. Home 3D Plan runs in your browser at no cost, with no sign-up requirement and no paywalled features. The PWA install is also free.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Home 3D Plan is a Progressive Web App, so you can open it in any modern browser and start designing. You can optionally install it to your home screen for offline access.
Can I export my plans?
