DraftCAD: Free Browser 2D CAD Drafting (AutoCAD-Style)
A 2-D precision drafting workspace with AutoCAD-style commands, coordinate input, layers, snaps, and dimensions, running free in your browser. Type a command, pick your points, draw to exact spec.
DraftCAD is the precision 2-D drafting workspace inside Home 3D Plan. The interface follows AutoCAD conventions: you type a command name (or its alias) in the command line, the tool prompts for picks, and Enter / Esc / Space drive the gesture. Lines, polylines, arcs, circles, offsets, trims, fillets, layers, snaps, and dimensions, all driven from a single text input or the top-bar ribbon.
Where the Home Planner is for laying out rooms and the Modeler is for building 3D objects, DraftCAD is for exact technical drawing, site plans, details, sections, anything that needs coordinate-precise geometry and proper dimensioning.
Command-line driven, AutoCAD-style
The bottom-centre **command line** accepts any command by name or alias, `LINE` / `L`, `CIRCLE` / `C`, `OFFSET` / `O`, `TRIM` / `TR`, and the rest of the AutoCAD muscle-memory set. Start typing anywhere on the canvas and the line auto-focuses. **Esc** cancels the in-flight gesture or clears the line, **Space** and **Enter** both submit, and **Tab** autocompletes the longest unambiguous prefix.
Prefer to point and click? Every command is also on the AutoCAD-style **ribbon** in the top bar, grouped by purpose, each row showing the icon, primary name, alias, and a one-line hint.
Exact coordinate input
Any prompt that expects a point accepts the full AutoCAD coordinate grammar: absolute `x,y`, relative `@dx,dy`, and polar `@dist<angle`. Learn those forms once and every drawing tool inherits them, you draw to exact specification, not by eye.
Precision aids mirror AutoCAD too: object snaps (endpoint, midpoint, centre, intersection), grid snap, and ortho mode. The F-keys match, **F3** toggles object snap, **F7** the grid, **F8** ortho.
A full drafting toolkit
Straight geometry (line, polyline, rectangle, polygon), curved geometry (circle, arc, ellipse), and the editing set that makes CAD productive: move, copy, rotate, mirror, scale, **offset**, **trim**, **extend**, **fillet**, and **chamfer**.
**Layers** organise the drawing, assign colour, lineweight, and visibility per layer and lock the ones you are not editing. **Dimensions** annotate it: linear, aligned, angular, and radial dimension styles that stay attached to the geometry as you edit.
Open DraftCAD and the full manual
Open the editor from the **DraftCAD** entry in the sidebar, or visit `/drafts` and click **New draft**, the canvas opens with a default Layer 0, millimetre units, and an empty drawing. Every command, alias, and coordinate form is catalogued in the [DraftCAD documentation](/cad/documentation).
DraftCAD shares the Home 3D Plan platform with the **[Home Planner](/features/home-planner)** (room layout) and the **[Modeler 3D Editor](/features/modeler-3d-editor)** (3D objects), three editors, one free account.
Frequently asked questions
Is Home 3D Plan free?
Yes. Home 3D Plan runs in your browser at no cost, with no sign-up requirement and no paywalled features. The PWA install is also free.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Home 3D Plan is a Progressive Web App, so you can open it in any modern browser and start designing. You can optionally install it to your home screen for offline access.
Can I export my plans?
Yes. Snapshot your lit 3D scene to an image (PNG) with one click, unlimited and with no watermark, and share a read-only or editable live link that opens in any browser without an account.
