Pergola questions, answered.

What is the pergola designer?

It is a free in-browser tool for designing a pergola with sliders, built into the home editor. Set the size, posts, beams, rafters, roof style, and material, and a real 3D pergola updates live in your plan — no CAD skills and no sign-up.

What roof styles can I build?

Six, switchable in one click: open rafters, a pitched gable, a cross-hatched lattice, fixed louvers, adjustable louvers (with a live blade angle and optional gutter), and a solid or shade-cloth panel.

Can I attach it to my house?

Yes. Switch Structure to Attached and the pergola becomes a wall-mounted lean-to: the wall-side posts and beam are replaced by a ledger board, and the rafters run from the front beam to the wall.

What materials are available?

Cedar, redwood, pressure-treated pine, tropical hardwood, painted white, powder-coated aluminium (white, black, or bronze), and composite — each rendered with realistic colour and finish.

Can I add screens, planters, or a bench?

Yes. Add crossed-slat lattice privacy screens on the back or either side, open-top planter boxes wrapping the corner posts, and a built-in bench across the back — all parametric and layered onto any roof style.

Can I get a materials list for my pergola?

Yes. The Design tab shows a cut list: every post, beam, rafter and brace grouped by size, with piece counts, total linear metres and board-feet, and a one-click copy as CSV.

Is the pergola designer free?

Yes — it runs entirely in your browser with no install and no licence. You can design a pergola and place it in a plan without an account; signing in just lets you save designs to come back to.
