What is the Fence Builder?
It is a free tool in the Home 3D Plan editor for drawing fences. Click along a path and each segment becomes part of one continuous, editable fence that renders as real 3D posts, rails, and infill.
How do I draw a fence?
Pick the Fence tool and click point to point in 2D or 3D — each click adds a segment and the whole chain becomes one fence. A live length chip previews each segment; press Esc or right-click to finish.
What fence styles are available?
Thirty-five ready-made fences you pick from a picture grid — cedar slat screens, feather-edge and board-on-board privacy, pickets (pointed, dog-ear, gothic, scalloped), horizontal battens, louvres, cable railings, glass balustrades, wrought iron, pool fencing, palisade, mesh, chain link, lattice, trellis, post-and-rail, ranch rail, and brick or stone piers with panels between.
Can I design my own fence rather than pick one?
Yes. Every part is a separate choice: thirteen infills (slats, pickets, boards, board-on-board, louvres, cables, balusters, glass, mesh, lattice, trellis, solid or rails only), post profile (square, round, flat bar, tapered or masonry pier) and cap, a continuous cap rail, up to four mid rails, a gravel board, and how the posts are fixed — in the ground, on a bolted base plate, or in a concrete footing.
Can fences curve?
Yes. A Curve control bends any segment into a smooth circular arc, and the posts and rails follow the curve automatically — so you can trace wavy or rounded boundaries, not just straight lines.
What can I customize?
Height, post spacing and size, infill width, gap, depth and row count, louvre blade angle, picket tops, a scalloped or arched top line, a trellis topper, rail sizes, cap width and thickness, gravel-board height, ground clearance, end inset, and elevation — plus a finish per part (cedar, oak, charred timber, painted, powder-coated, steel, stainless, weathering steel, glass, brick, stone or concrete) or your own material from the catalogue on any of the five slots.
Can I reuse a fence design?
Yes. Save a fence as a named preset (when signed in) and apply it to new fences or restyle existing ones across any project. You can also apply one design to every fence at once.
Does the fence show in 3D and save with my project?
Yes. Fences generate real 3D geometry that appears in the walkthrough and is stored in your .hdp project file, so they reload with the rest of your design.
Is the Fence Builder free?
Yes — it runs in your browser as part of the free Home 3D Plan editor, with no install and no licence.
