Getting Started with Home 3D Plan: Your First Plan in Ten Minutes

Open the free editor, draw walls and rooms to scale, add a door and a window, see the house in 3D, add a second floor and save your project.

Open the editor

1. Go to `/editor` to start without an account. Your work is kept in this browser.

2. To keep a project in the cloud, sign in and press **New project** on your dashboard. It opens at `/projects/<id>/edit` and saves itself as you work.

3. You draw on the **plan**, a top down drawing to scale with a grid. If the model is showing, press the view chip at the top until you are in 2D. Scroll or pinch to zoom, and drag with the middle mouse button, two fingers or the Pan tool to move around.

Draw your first rooms

1. Open **Build** in the tool rail and pick **Wall**, or type `WA` and press Enter.

2. Click where the first corner goes, then each next corner. A label shows the length and angle as you move.

3. Click the first corner again to close the room. The space inside becomes a room with its area written in it.

4. Draw a wall across the room to divide it. Where a new wall meets an existing one it joins it, and the room splits in two.

5. To type an exact length, start a wall, type the number (for example `4500`) and press Enter.

Tip: walls are drawn on their centre line by default. Wall justification (`WJ`) draws them on their inside or outside face instead, and wall thickness (`WT`) cycles the thickness new walls get.

Add a door and a window

1. Open **Structure** and pick **Door**. Choose one from the picker that opens.

2. Click on a wall from the side the door should swing into. Press `H` to flip the hinge and `T` to cycle a swinging, sliding or double door before you click.

3. Pick **Window** and click on a wall the same way.

4. Select a door or window afterwards and drag its grips to resize it or slide it along the wall. Its width, height and sill are in the Properties tab.

See it in 3D

**2D**: the plan, where you draw.

**3D**: the model in perspective. Drag to orbit, right drag or two fingers to pan, scroll or pinch to zoom.

**2.5D**: the same model from straight above without perspective, with its materials. It pans and zooms but does not rotate.

Press the view chip at the top to move between them; it names the view it switches to. The model is built from the drawing every time it changes, so there is nothing to export or rebuild.

Add a second floor

1. Press the storey switcher at the top and add a floor.

2. The floor below shows faintly under the new one, and your new walls snap to it, so the upper walls stand on the lower ones.

3. In 3D every storey at or below the one you are on stands, so pick the top storey to see the whole house.

Furnish it

Open **Furniture** and choose a category. Pick a piece and click in a room to place it, or drag a card onto the plan. Pieces seat against walls and on floors. See [Furniture and kitchens](/docs/furniture-and-kitchens).

Save and share

**Saving**: a signed in project saves every change to the cloud on its own. Settings › History keeps earlier versions for 30 days so you can restore one.

**Sharing**: the share button gives a view link anyone can open in their browser, and an edit link for people you want to work with. See [Teams and sharing](/docs/teams-and-sharing).

**Undo**: `Ctrl+Z` or `Cmd+Z` undoes, `Ctrl+Y` or `Cmd+Shift+Z` redoes, in every view.
