Doors and Windows: Placing, Sizing and Swinging Openings in Walls

The three tools

**Door** (`DOOR`, `DR`): click a wall from the side the door should swing to. Before the click, `H` flips the hinge and `T` cycles swinging, sliding and double doors.

**Window** (`WINDOW`, `WI`): click a wall to set a window in it.

**Opening** (`OPENING`, `OP`): a plain hole in a wall, with no frame, such as an archway or a pass through.

Door and Window open a picker of styles first; the next click on a wall places the one you picked.

Sizing and moving

**Grips**: select an opening to drag its ends to change its width, or its middle to slide it along the wall. It stays in its wall.

**Properties**: kind, style, width, height and sill, and the materials of each part. The sill is measured from the wall's own base.

**Flip**: a selected door's hinge and swing can be flipped from its properties.

**Copy**: a copied door or window takes the nearest wall where it lands, or the copy of its own wall when the wall is copied with it.

In the other views

**3D**: doors and windows are built in the hole the wall leaves for them, with their frames, glazing and handles.

**Elevations**: they are drawn on the wall faces with their tags (D1, W1), and can be placed and moved there too. See [Sections and elevations](/docs/sections-and-elevations).

**Schedule**: the Schedules tab lists every door and window with its size, sill, storey and room. See [Sheets and schedules](/docs/sheets-and-schedules).

Curtain walls

A curtain wall is a wall whose Function is set to curtain wall: a grid of glass panels and mullions. Its panel width, height and mullion are in its properties.

Doors and windows cannot be placed in a curtain wall; the tool says so and places nothing.
