Storeys and Levels: Floors, Heights, Double Height Spaces

Add storeys and basements, set floor levels and heights, see the floor below while you draw, open double height spaces, and copy or raise a whole storey.

The storey switcher

The switcher at the top shows the storey you are drawing on. Open it to pick another, add a floor above the top one, open a storey's properties, or show the **Roof** plan (ridges, hips, eaves and roof windows).

**Ground** is storey 0, and the storeys above are 1, 2 and so on. Each can have a name of its own, which the views and sheets use.

While you draw on a storey, the one below is shown faintly and your clicks snap to its walls, so an upper floor is set out on the walls that carry it.

Levels and heights

**Floor level**: each storey stands on the one below at that storey's height, unless you set its level.

**Height and plates**: a storey's height, floor and ceiling thickness and default wall thickness are in its properties.

**Level** (`LEVEL`, `LV`): in a section or elevation, click at a height to add a storey whose floor is there.

**Datum**: Settings › Site sets the project's datum level, which every level marker reads from.

Copying and moving storeys

**Duplicate**: copies a storey with the parts you choose: its walls, openings, furniture, rooms and so on.

**Elevate** (`ELEVATE`, `ELEV`): copies this storey's walls, columns, beams and drawn slabs to the storey above, with their supports pointed at the copies, to build up from what is drawn.

**Delete**: removes a storey and everything on it; you land on the storey below.

Double height spaces

Raise the walls of a room past the floor above and that room gets its own ceiling higher up, and the storey above leaves its floor out over it.

You can also set it yourself: select the room on the upper storey and set **Floor above** to open or solid.

Stairs open the floor they climb to on their own, the same way. See [Stairs](/docs/stairs).

What 3D shows

**3D**: every storey at or below the one you are on. Pick the top storey to see the whole house.

**2.5D**: never a storey above the current one, where its floor would be a lid over the house.

**Ceilings**: the storey you are on is shown without its ceiling so you can look in; the storeys below keep theirs.
