Files and checks
Import a drawing (import_drawing): a home3dplan MCP tool
import_drawing: Import a DXF, DWG or SVG into a storey of the project, as the editor’s Settings › Imports does: units read from the file or chosen, a scale, placement (keep the file’s coordinates, corner at the origin, centre on the plot), layers merged by name or prefixed or put on one la.
`import_drawing` is one of the 24 tools the home3dplan MCP server offers an assistant. Connect [Claude](/mcp/claude), [Claude Code](/mcp/claude-code) or [ChatGPT](/mcp/chatgpt) and it is available in the conversation.
What it does
Import a DXF, DWG or SVG into a storey of the project, as the editor’s Settings › Imports does: units read from the file or chosen, a scale, placement (keep the file’s coordinates, corner at the origin, centre on the plot), layers merged by name or prefixed or put on one layer, blocks kept or exploded, text kept or dropped. Give the file as text (dxf, svg), as base64 (any), or as a URL to fetch. The result is lines and shapes; walls_from_lines turns them into walls.
A write. It saves one revision of the project, which appears in the open editor at once and can be undone there. Scope: **projects:write**.
Inputs
**projectId** (string, required): See the tool’s description.
**storey** (integer): Default 0.
**name** (string, required): the file name, with its extension
**text** (string): See the tool’s description.
**base64** (string): See the tool’s description.
**url** (string): See the tool’s description.
**settings** ({ units?: auto | mm | cm | m | in | ft, scale?: number, placement?: keep | origin | plot, layers?: merge | prefix | single, blocks?: keep | explode, text?: keep | skip }): See the tool’s description.
What comes back
What changed, in words and in a structured form, and the link that opens the project in the editor on the right storey and view.
Tip: if the project changed in the editor between two calls, the write is refused as a conflict and the assistant opens the project again. Nothing is overwritten.
Ask for it like this
"Import this DXF floor plan into my project."
The assistant chooses the tool and fills its inputs from what you said; you do not name the tool or type its inputs.
