The 24 home3dplan MCP Tools: What an Assistant Can Call

Every tool the home3dplan MCP server offers Claude and ChatGPT: projects, walls, openings, rooms, storeys, roofs, materials, furniture, site, services, exports, imports, checks, search and fetch. One page per tool with its inputs.

The server offers 24 tools. Reads change nothing; writes save one revision of the project each. The assistant picks the tool from what you ask; you never name it. Each page gives the tool’s inputs, what comes back and a sentence to ask for it.

What the server tells the assistant

home3dplan is a home design editor. A project has storeys; each storey has a 2D drawing of walls and openings from which rooms, slabs and the 3D model derive.

Plan coordinates are millimetres with x to the right and y up the page. The scene (3D, site, furniture) uses metres with x = plan x / 1000 and z = -plan y / 1000.

Open a project (open_project) before changing it. Every change is one saved revision; the person sees it in their open editor at once.

When you are done, give the person the editor link from open_in_editor so they can look, render and continue.

Scopes

**projects:read**: list and open projects, read plans, search the catalogue, run the checks, search and fetch.

**projects:write**: every tool that changes a project.

**files:write**: export_file, which saves a file into the project.

The consent page shows the three; a client may ask for fewer.

Projects

  • List projects: list_projects: The home design projects the signed-in person can open, newest first, with their role in each.
  • Create a project: create_project: A new, empty home design project owned by the signed-in person.
  • Open a project: open_project: A summary of a project: its storeys with their rooms and areas, walls, openings, roofs, site and placed objects, plus its thumbnail when it has one.
  • Read the plan: get_plan: The drawing of one storey as data: walls (id, endpoints in plan millimetres, thickness, material, curtain grid), openings (id, wall, kind, centre offset from the wall’s a end, width, height, sill), rooms (name, area, a point inside) and layers.
  • Open in the editor: open_in_editor: A link that opens the project in the home design editor, on a storey and in a view (2d plan, 3d model, ortho).

The building

  • Draw walls: draw_walls: Draw walls on a storey from centreline endpoints in plan millimetres (x right, y up).
  • Change walls: set_walls: Change walls by id (ids come from get_plan): thickness, material, curtain grid, head, function.
  • Place doors and windows: place_openings: Hang doors and windows from the presets onto the wall nearest each point (plan mm).
  • Name rooms: name_rooms: Name the room that contains each point (plan mm).
  • Set storeys: set_storeys: Declare storeys and their levels: index (0 is the ground floor), a name, the elevation of the storey’s floor slab underside (metres), the clear height (metres), the floor thickness (metres).
  • Add a roof: add_roof: Draw a roof over an outline given in scene metres (x, and y = plan z, so plan y 4000 mm is -4).
  • Set materials: set_materials: Define project materials and assign them.
  • Run a drawing command: run_command: Type a command on the drawing’s command line (WALL, LINE, DOOR, WINDOW, ROOMNAME, SLAB, ARCWALL, WALLTHICK, SECTION, ELEVATION, DIMENSION, ZOOM and the rest), then click its points in plan mm.

Furniture, site and services

  • Search the catalogue: search_catalog: Find furniture, fixtures and fittings to place: 0 items in categories such as sofa, armchair, bed, chair, kitchen, kitchen_table, coffee_table, bathroom, lamp, cupboard, dresser, carpet, shelf, picture.
  • Place furniture: place_furniture: Place catalogue items (ids from search_catalog) at scene positions in metres on a storey.
  • Add site elements: add_site_elements: Fences (polylines; glass balustrades with infill "glass"), landscape blocks (closed outlines extruded from baseY by height: decks, planters, plinths, steps, seats), plants (presets such as "Royal Palm", "Coconut Palm", "Bush 2", "Oak") and paved areas, all in scene metres (y of a point is scene z).
  • Generate the site: generate_site: Lay out the site around the building with the site generator: a drive and path, hard standing, a terrace, beds, a boundary fence, the ground.
  • Generate the services: generate_services: Lay out electrical, plumbing, drainage and HVAC from the building: sockets and lights per room, water runs to the wet rooms, drains with falls to the boundary, heating.

Files and checks

  • Export a file: export_file: Export the project: ifc (the building as IFC4), dxf or dwg (a storey’s plan drawing), pdf-plan (a storey’s plan on one sheet, as the editor’s Plan sheet export), pdf-detail-set (an A4 book: a general arrangement, a page per storey, per room and for the site, in the plan style’s colours), csv-rooms (the room schedule), csv-finishes (the finish schedule).
  • Import a drawing: import_drawing: Import a DXF, DWG or SVG into a storey of the project, as the editor’s Settings › Imports does: units read from the file or chosen, a scale, placement (keep the file’s coordinates, corner at the origin, centre on the plot), layers merged by name or prefixed or put on one layer, blocks kept or exploded, text kept or dropped.
  • Walls from lines: walls_from_lines: Turn imported lines into walls on a storey: double-line mode pairs parallel lines a wall apart into one wall at the measured thickness and makes an opening where both faces gap; centreline mode makes a wall on every line.
  • Check the project: check: The checks the editor runs: modelling problems in the scene (pierced ceilings, overlaps) and the drawing’s advisories per storey (egress, services, heights).

Deep research

  • Search: search: Search the signed-in person’s projects and the home3dplan documentation.
  • Fetch: fetch: The full content behind a search result id: a project summary (project:<id>) or a documentation page (doc:<path>).
