Checks and Issues: Clashes, Code Checks and What Needs Attention

The Issues tab reads the drawing as you work: clashes between services and the structure, electrical, water, gas, drainage, heating and ventilation checks, walls that do not close and the site boundary.

The Issues tab

Open the **Issues** tab in the side panel. It lists what the checks found on the storey you are on, grouped by discipline, with a count beside each kind.

Click a row to select the thing it is about; its properties open, on the plan or in a side view.

When every check on the storey is clean it says so.

Tip: the checks are advice. They never stop you drawing, and none of them replaces a designer or an engineer.

What is checked

**Not connected**: a fitting that should be fed by a run and is not.

**Electrical**: cable sizes, voltage drop, safe zones, bonding, RCD protection, circuits and boards, and the US socket rules. See [Electrical](/docs/electrical).

**Water and gas**: gas reaching each appliance and its pressure drop, meters and isolation, valve order. See [Plumbing and heating](/docs/plumbing-and-heating).

**Drainage**: falls, depths, chambers, stacks and rainwater. See [Drainage](/docs/drainage).

**Heating and ventilation**: radiator output at the flow temperature, the heat source against its emitters, duct shape and air speed, condensate pipes. See [Ventilation](/docs/ventilation).

**Coordination**: a run through the structure, a run through another run, a service through a beam, a hole too small for what passes through it.

**Walls and rooms**: a gap that keeps a room from closing.

**Site**: a building over the plot boundary.

Readouts in the panels

Some checks are figures in a thing's own panel rather than rows in the Issues tab:

**Pipes**: a supply pipe's loading units, its flow and the size it needs.

**Radiators**: what a radiator gives at the flow temperature of its heat source.

**Ducts**: the air through a duct, its speed and its aspect.

**Kitchens**: landing space, aisles and the work triangle.

**Stairs**: the riser and going against comfortable ranges.

**Massing**: floor area, site coverage, plot ratio, and whether the block keeps inside the setback and the height limit.

Frequently asked questions

Does a clean Issues tab mean my design meets the building regulations?

No. The checks read what the drawing shows and say where it looks wrong. A designer, an engineer or a building inspector still has to check the design.
