Rooms
You never draw a room: any space the walls close is one, with its area written in it. Name it, raise its floor, set its clear height, hang a dropped ceiling, and give its floor, ceiling and walls their finishes and trim.
Every property, and what it does
Select a room and these are its rows, on its three tabs: Room, Materials and Trim. A field shows when it applies, so a room on a slab has its slab and one without does not.
Room
Its name and number, over its area.
| Field | What it does | Values |
|---|---|---|
| Area | The room's floor area, shown beside its name and written in the room on the plan. | Read from the walls |
| Name | What the room is called on the plan, the schedules and the exports. | Any name |
| Number | The room's number. Empty numbers it by order. | Any number or code |
| Preset | Names the room from a list. A named bathroom, kitchen or utility is what the drainage generator looks for. | Living, Sleeping, Washing and Service rooms |
| Storey, Walls | The storey the room is on, and how many walls close it. | Read only |
Level
How high the floor sits and how tall the room is.
| Field | What it does | Values |
|---|---|---|
| Build-up | The floor build up a room beside a terrace takes. | Millimetres, read only |
| Floor step | How far this room's floor stands above the storey's. The walls around it do not move. | Millimetres |
| Clear height | Floor to ceiling. Written onto this room's walls, never below the storey's own. | Millimetres |
| Floor above | Whether the room has a floor over it or is open to the storey above, for a double height space. | Automatic, Open, Solid |
Slab and ceiling
The slab the room stands on and the deck over it.
| Field | What it does | Values |
|---|---|---|
| Floor | Where a drawn slab is the floor, the room wears its finish on top of it. | Read from the slab |
| Extend slab to room | Grows the slab to cover the part of the room that has none under it. | One click |
| Ceiling slab thickness | The deck over the room. Cleared, it follows the storey's own. | Millimetres |
Dropped ceiling
A lining hung below the structure.
| Field | What it does | Values |
|---|---|---|
| Drop | How far the lining hangs below the structure. Empty is none. | Millimetres |
| Lining | How thick the hung lining is. | Millimetres |
| Lining is | A grid of tiles, or plain board. | A grid, Board |
| Tile width, Tile length | The tile across and up the plan. Empty is 600, and an empty length makes a square tile. | Millimetres |
Materials
A finish for each face of the room, and every wall round it at once.
| Field | What it does | Values |
|---|---|---|
| Floor, Ceiling | The finish of the floor and the ceiling. Dropping a texture on a face does the same. | Any project material |
| Floor border, Ceiling border | A border finish round the edge of the floor or the ceiling. | Any project material |
| Floor underside, Outside ceiling | The faces seen from below or from outside. | Any project material |
| Wall faces | Sets the face of every wall round the room at once. One wall's own materials change only that wall. | Any project material |
Trim
Mouldings and features run round the room. Each follows the storey's own until the room is given one of its own.
| Field | What it does | Values |
|---|---|---|
| Skirting, Cornice | A skirting along the foot of the walls and a cornice along the top, each with its profile and finish. | Follow the storey, or the room's own profile |
| Wall battens, Wall slats | Battens or slats lining the walls, with a finish for the backing between them. | Follow the storey, or the room's own |
| Ceiling LED | A strip of light round the ceiling. | Follow the storey, or the room's own |
How rooms work
Draw the walls
Use the Wall tool (WALL, WA) and click each corner. Close the loop and the space inside is a room.
Read its area
The room's area is written in it, and changes the moment a wall moves.
Name it
Select the room and type its name, or pick one from the presets. Its number follows its order unless you give one.
Finish it
Set its floor step and clear height, hang a dropped ceiling, and give its faces and trim their finishes.
Room questions, answered.
Do I draw rooms or walls?
Walls. Any space the walls close is a room, and it changes as soon as the walls do. Remove a wall between two rooms and they become one.
How is the area measured?
From the walls round the room, and it updates as soon as a wall moves. The room's area is written in it on the plan and listed in the schedules.
Can a room be double height?
Yes. Set Floor above to Open and the room is open to the storey above.
Can I add skirting and a cornice?
Yes. The room's Trim tab runs skirting, cornice, battens, slats and a ceiling LED strip round the room.
