Fences and Gates: Fence Styles, Posts, Rails and Gates
Draw fence runs around the plot, choose from slat, picket, board, louver, glass, mesh and other infills, set posts, rails and caps, curve a segment, and put gates in.
Draw a fence
1. Open **Structure** and pick **Fence**, or type `FENCE` (`FE`). The fence settings open with the tool.
2. Click each corner of the run; press Enter to finish.
3. Select a run to change it on its own. A segment can be curved, and the run's height, elevation and total length are in its panel.
Its design
**Infill**: none, vertical slats, pickets, horizontal boards, board on board, louvres, cable, balusters, glass, mesh, lattice, trellis or solid.
**Posts**: their profile (including a masonry pier), size, spacing and caps.
**Rails**: a top rail, a cap rail along the top, up to four mid rails and a bottom rail.
**Base**: a gravel board, and how the posts are fixed: in the ground, on a base plate or on a concrete footing.
**Finishes**: each part has its own material.
The settings set the design new fences get; **Apply these defaults to every placed fence** changes the ones already drawn. Designs can be kept in **My fences**, beside the **Fence library**.
Gates
**Gate** (`GATE`): click on a fence and a gate 1.0 m wide stands in it there.
Its width, which side it hangs from (**Hung from**) and which way it swings (**Swings to**) are in the fence's **Gates** band, where **Add a gate** puts in another.
